Fixing a legacy. Forging the future. Fueling the fight.
The 134th Maintenance Group (MXG) at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base provides award winning, worldclass KC-135 maintenance and fleet management to ensure the 134th Air Refueling Wing remains at the forefront of our Nation's Defense. We are dedicated to developing our Airmen and pursuing excellence to generate safe, reliable, and on time airpower. We pride ourselves on delivering vital air refueling capability for global and homeland defense operations with excellence.
Future Operations: The KC-46 Transition
Concurrently, we are leaning forward into a new era of air refueling through a multi-year strategic roadmap. Our mission focuses on:
- Upskilling Maintenance Professionals: Transitioning our workforce to master next-generation systems and digital avionics.
- Infrastructure Modernization: Upgrading our facilities to support the arrival of the KC-46 Pegasus projected for 2031.
- Strategic Readiness: Ensuring a seamless bridge between the legacy KC-135R mission and future requirements.
Innovation & Industry Partnerships
The 134th MXG is a leader in advanced maintenance solutions. We are currently leveraging industry partners and our relationship with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to solve parts availability shortfalls for mobility and combat aircraft through adaptive (additive) manufacturing. By integrating 3D printing and advanced materials science, we are reducing lead times and increasing fleet readiness for the Department of War.
