Members of the 134th Security Forces Squadron recently teamed up with the Blount County Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics team for a joint training exercise, May 3, 2025, designed to enhance tactical capabilities, and mission-focused lethality. Participation in this training helps prepare Airmen for real-world situations where precision, teamwork, and swift decision-making can mean the difference between life and death. “The main objective today is to focus on the fundamentals of shooting, working on sight alignment, trigger control, breathing and moving” said, Technical Sgt. Michael Cornett, 134th SFS unit training manager. This collaboration represents a continued effort to bridge military and civilian law enforcement tactics in high-stakes environments. Both units emphasized the value of sharing experiences and approaches to threats. “Training with local agencies once a quarter helps our members learn the newest tactics our counterparts are using and integrate it into our training so we are all on the same page,” said Cornett. Joint training opportunities like this strengthen community partnerships while reinforcing the 134th’s commitment to both local and national security objectives. As threats continue to evolve, so does the 134th SFS as they focus on mission readiness and lethality. “I hope our members become more comfortable with shooting the rifle and the pistol and are more confident that if they're put in a scenario where it's needed they can reflect on what they were taught here,” said Cornett.
